Standard 1: Creating and Maintaining a Positive Learning Environment

In my classroom management course, I was able to design my own classroom. Over time, my layout has changed and has been influenced by other positive and loving classrooms I have spent time in during my student teaching experiences.

While this layout was created without a specific group of students in mind, flexibility is key. As a teacher, I will adapt the layout as needed to ensure inclusivity and meet the unique needs of all students. Including adjusting desk placements to best support their learning.

My classroom layout supports both individual and group work. Student desks are arranged so everyone has a clear view of the smart board and whiteboards. Collaboration is encouraged, as students will work with their table groups during activities. My desk and small group table are positioned at the side of the room, allowing me to monitor the entire class and the interior door. A student supply center will be in the back of the classroom on the countertop near the sink area. Having a student supply center will promote independence and fewer disruptions as the students will know how to fix problems like needing pencils, etc. There will also be a reading nook that will promote a love of reading, comfort, and relaxation. As well as a separate calm-down area that will support the students through social and emotional growth. Blank wall spaces and/or storage cabinets will display anchor charts and student-created work to reinforce learning and celebrate achievements. This layout is designed to foster a positive, supportive learning environment.

I value organization and plan to maintain a well-structured classroom for both my students and myself. An organized classroom offers numerous benefits- it fosters student independence and ownership while enhancing engagement and academic performance. Additionally, it improves teaching effectiveness by ensuring that materials are easily accessible, minimizing wasted time, and reducing stress for both the teachers and students.

I have also included a comprehensive classroom management plan that I designed for my future classroom.
