Standard 6: Advocating for Social Justice and Equity and Developing Family and Community Relationships
During my student teaching placements I created a little meet the student teacher letter to be shared with the families.
Through conversations with experienced teachers, I have learned many valuable strategies for fostering positive communication and building strong relationships with students’ families. With this in mind, I created a mock-up of my future “Meet the Teacher” letter and family questionnaire for the upcoming school year. My goal is for this letter to help ease any anxieties students and their families may have about starting a new school year, while also providing me with meaningful insights about each student and their home environment.
During my student teaching placements, I created an “About Me” slideshow to share with students during our morning meeting. Sharing these slides gave students a fun and engaging way to learn more about me, and I could immediately see how beneficial it was in building connections and creating a welcoming classroom environment.
